A Beloved Gopher

Casey O'Brien, a former standout defensive lineman for the Gophers, has announced a relapse of his cancer and has asked for help with medical expenses.

O'Brien, 24, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2019. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and was declared cancer-free in 2020.

However, in a recent Facebook post, O'Brien revealed that the cancer had returned. He said he is currently undergoing treatment, but the medical expenses are mounting.

A Gopher Through and Through

O'Brien was a standout player for the Gophers from 2015 to 2018. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.

After graduating from Minnesota, O'Brien signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. He was cut by the Jets in 2019.

Despite the setbacks, O'Brien remains a beloved figure in the Gopher community. He is known for his positive attitude and his willingness to help others.
