In the run-up to the 2024 Indian general election various media houses and polling agencies conducted opinion polls to gauge public sentiment and predict the outcome of the election. One such poll was conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post, which surveyed 35,801 respondents across India between December 28, 2023, and January 10, 2024. The poll found that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was the most popular party among respondents, with 45% of respondents saying they would vote for the BJP if the election were held at that time.

The poll also found that the opposition Indian National Congress (INC) was the second most popular party, with 25% of respondents saying they would vote for the INC. The remaining respondents said they would vote for other parties or were undecided.

The poll's findings are in line with other recent opinion polls, which have also shown the BJP to be the frontrunner in the upcoming election. However, it is important to note that opinion polls are only a snapshot of public sentiment at a particular point in time and can change significantly in the lead-up to an election.
